Make-Up Lessons
Students have until Jan. 14th to schedule any missing lessons from 1st semester. Recording assignments are no longer accepted. Students may schedule a make-up lesson HERE.
SCIBA Honor Band
Congratulations to students who were accepted into the 2022 SCIBA Honor Band. An itinerary for the event can be found HERE. If you are interested, the SCIBA performance will be on Jan. 8th at 5:00 PM in Ankeny High School.
Jazz I Noce Performance
Jazz I will be performing at Noce in downtown Des Moines on Wednesday, Jan. 19th. A student itinerary can be found HERE. The Des Moines Big Band will play at 7:00 PM. UHS Jazz I will play during their break at approximately 8:00 PM. We highly encourage families to attend this exciting performance!

Solo & Ensemble Festivals
The Urbandale Solo and Ensemble Festival will be held on Feb. 10th at UHS and Feb. 19th at Perry High School. Students are expected to perform at BOTH events.
Participating students should have already completed the following tasks:
- Order their official copy of the music from Rieman’s or another music outlet.
- Check the posted accompanist rehearsal schedule for assigned rehearsal times on Jan. 23, Jan. 30, and Feb. 6.
- Soloists should have weekly lessons with band staff or a private teacher.
- If you are playing in a small ensemble, you are required to attend an ensemble coaching session with a director on Tuesday afternoons. The ensemble-coaching sign-up form can be found HERE.
Simpson College Jazz Performance
All three jazz band will perform at the Simpson College Jazz Festival on Thursday, Jan. 27th. The performances will take place during the day. Students will be dismissed from class. An itinerary will be posted HERE as soon as we received our assigned performance times.
Band Summit – Saturday, Jan. 29
The 12th Annual Band Summit will include all band students in grades 7 – 12. The day will start at 8:00 a.m. for high school students. It will include sectionals with local professionals and a full group clinic rehearsal in the morning. The afternoon will include high school bands serving as mentors and teachers for younger band students. The day will include a pizza lunch at noon and a public performance at 4:00 PM. The concert will feature joint performances with UMS & UHS students together.
A detailed schedule for the day will be published HERE. The pizza lunch will be provided by the Performing Arts Booster Club. The concert will be free. Thank you to our volunteers who have signed up to help serve at this event! It’s a great opportunity to meet the next generation of J-Hawk Band members.
